Noosa Everglades

The Noosa everglades, one of only two everglades systems in the world, is a landscape of webbed tributaries fringed in pristine vegetation and inhabited by more than 40% of Australia’s bird species. This biodiversity hotspot stretches 60 km along the upper reaches of the Noosa River and straddles two UNESCO Biosphere Reserves; the Noosa and Great Sandy.

This biodiversity hotspot has 65% of its catchment within national parks to protect the high ecological value of the ecosystem. The tranquility and reflections can be enjoyed by kayak or boat tours, however there is still much to enjoy on a day of torrential downpouring. Although the reflections distort with the rain drops and the birdlife go into hiding, there may still be a brave, bright blue kingfisher willing to share its glory and the brooding grey skies make for a different kind of beauty.
